Classmates Online is now a subsidiary of United Online. As the senior network
engineer I oversee, maintain and implement changes across the network in two
datacenters. The Core network includes hardware from Cisco, F5 and SUN. Also as
Sr. Network Engineer I analyze BGP links and balanced traffic across links,
monitor all traffic and IDS systems to ensure network integrity. Work with and
configure Cisco switches, routers PIX’s, F5 Network load balancers. Design,
setup and implement test environments for corporate development of
applications. Implement system wide graphs and logging for all network devices.
Rotate on call with other member of the engineering team for all network
devices & unix systems.
Packetwest Communications – Senior Network Engineer, (July 2003 –

Packetwest Communication is a leading edge Voice over
Internet Protocol (VoIP) company based out of Federal Way and Seattle, WA,
providing low cost telephone service to both medium sized businesses to single
end users. Packetwest Communications offers a wide variety of services which
include conferencing, voice mail, call forwarding, transferring, specialized
custom billing and number transportability. Provides phone service to companies
both in and outside of the USA. Responsibilities include network design for
both corporate and customer locations, traffic QOS & priority mapping, system
setup and installation, configurations of all corporate and customer dial
plans. System kernel turning and application tuning. Provide problem resolution
to issues and research alternative and new technologies.

As owner
and chief technician of m2os, I provide high-level Unix and Network consulting
services to many companies throughout the Northwest including: Aptimus, ColoCenters, The Mead Group,
ACS, The State of Alaska, Mt. Rainier National Park, Virtual Spectator, City of
Federal Way, Tegris, Fisher Communications, Zama, Cortland Communications,
Murphy, 4ADream. A brief description of key projects follow:
The Mead Group/Aptimus – Senior Network Engineer, (January 2004)
Provided
24/7 on-call technical support for Network Operations during senior technical
staff vacation. Regions supported include offices in both Seattle, Washington and San Francisco,
California. This contract required a strong ability to familiarize myself with
the entire network, in virtually no time, in order to provide expert support
for any outages or disasters. Though brief in duration, this project has been
key in building an ongoing and positive relationship with The Mead Group and
Aptimus.
The Mead Group – Design and implementation Engineer, (December 2003)
Located
in Seattle, Washington. Provided strategic advice on the variety of Voice over
IP platforms and solutions. Sourced appropriate hardware and software, Setup
and installed complete Voice over IP solution on a Unix based PBX system,configured
with phones, auto attendant, conferencing and voice mail. Interfaced with
external VoIP providers for dial tone and DID numbers.
Alaska Communications System (ACS) – Senior Network Architect, (October 2002
– October 2003)
As SE
Regional Sr. Network Engineer/Architect, provided design and proof of concept
work in a lab for MPLS/VPN/VRF/QoS/VoIP/Video/Data configurations to handle all
types of traffic including packet marking. Services extended to the company’s
core network, which was comprised of over 58 core routers and 52 core switches
as well as key customer infrastructure. Installed equipment, documented and
created network maps, installed and setup Unix based monitoring and traffic
analyzing system, wired circuits and installed routers as needed. Participated
in design meetings and discussions of strategic network plans. Researched
potential network market places and areas of company interest to prove
viability. As one of only two top-level Network Engineers, I provided critical
support for ACS Senior Management and engineers as well as their largest
customer, The State of Alaska. This work required extensive customer
interfacing. As a trusted consultant, I was able to work remotely from Seattle,
Washington for a large portion of this contract. I regularly traveled to the
ACS Head Quarters in Anchorage as well as State of Alaska Offices in
Juneau. On behalf of ACS, I
presented a 1-hour lecture for the computer science class at the University of
Alaska in Juneau, outlining the ACS network and answering questions.
Mt. Rainier National Park Service – Senior
Unix/Network Engineer, (August 2002 – present)
As an ongoing volunteer, I provide services to many areas of the park
and head quarters, located in Ashford, Washington. Projects have included:
setting up wireless and network security on multiple routers, switches and T1
spans. Upgrading MySQL permit system running on Linux and installing graphing
and monitoring tools to analyze network performance. Documented network with
various graphing and router backup tools and created a complete network
map. Much of my ongoing work for
them is accomplished remotely via a VPN connection to The Department of
Interior network.
Virtual Spectator – Hosting provider and Unix consultant, (March 2002 - September
2002)
For
client located in Sydney, Australia, provided Unix file hosting services via
the internet to support remote races. Services involved the transfer of larges
files and/or host data.
City of Federal Way, Washington – Senior Network Engineer, (March 2002)
As a
volunteer for the City, I analyzed and fixed routing issues within the city’s
static network and setup Unix based router backup tools, network graphing and
analyzing tools to view network performance.
Tegris Corporation – Senior Network Engineer, (February 2002)
Provided
services to offices in Bellevue, Washington and Los Angeles, California. Fixed
BGP routing issues between the Tegris’s Seattle offices and San Francisco
network centers, created efficient routing maps to send traffic where needed
for performance and financial reasons. Worked on their internal OSPF network
and resolved several routing anomalies. Worked with engineers to come up with
regional assigned IP plans and assignments for cleaner IP routing. Analyzed
traffic flow and patterns and adjusted routes as needed. Worked with upstream
providers on problem resolution.
Fisher
Communications/KOMO4 - Senior Network Engineer, (February 2001 – April
2001)
Located
in Seattle, Washington. Worked with and resolved several BGP/OSPF issues with
the customer’s internet providers and dual router connectivity to the internet.
Setup network monitoring, graphing and analyzing of traffic flows for best
performance. Worked with ARIN and customer’s internet providers to acquire
Autonomous System Number (ASN) so that they could control their route
announcements via BGP. Created and documented their network using various tools
and provided a complete network map.
Zama
Communications – IPv6 Senior
Network Engineer, (December 2001)
Located
in Tukwila, Washington. Worked on several IPv6 test lab designs and setup
procedures to do testing with the IPv6 protocol.

invalid zones and entries, helped wherever possible with data center layouts
and configurations.

and categorize all network equipment they had in possession in order to

4ADream.Com – Senior Network Engineer, (Jan 2001)
Located
in Federal Way, Washington. Installed and setup a router to access the
internet. Worked with provider to bring up the frame-relay circuit. Setup DNS
and network monitoring systems so that they could watch and analyze their
network performance. Setup NAT and setup IP/DHCP pool structure for within the
company.
Global Crossing – Senior Network Engineer, (April 2001 – April 2002)
Worked
remotely supporting office located in Phoenix, Arizona. With senior network
architects, helped design and implement router changes across global network of
over 525 core routers and switches. Hardware included Cisco, Juniper and
Unisphere routers and Cisco switches. Analyzed BGP, OSPF/ISIS and MPLS network
tables to find and resolve routing problems. Part of the IPv6 design team,
created and implemented the IPv6 network within Global Crossing global network.
Setup graphing tools to analyze the IPv6 network utilization and performance.
Setup all IPv6 BGP sessions and routing rules/maps with customers. Did random
security audits on all core routers and switches to ensure network integrity.
Created customized route-maps for specialized customers. Provided Tier 3
support for network group and rotated “on call” with the rest of the company’s
sr. network engineers. Setup the security on the global crossing route-views
router. Designed the logging level metrics for all routers and switches. Acted
as primary Unix administrator for our group’s management SUN box, hosting all
our tools and backups. Attended the Juniper MPLS/VPN/BGP class in Tempe,
Arizona as well as the Global Crossing Engineer design meeting in Ann Arbor,
Michigan.
FreeInternet.Com – Lead Senior Network Engineer, (November 1999 – November
2000)
Located
in Federal Way, Washington. Managed and designed all aspects of the FreeI
network, both internal and external. Worked with Cisco venders to acquire
appropriate equipment based on performance needs. Setup and installed
monitoring systems for network notifications of outages and network
performance. Documented entire network with both maps and graphs and setup
network wide access policies. Maintained OSPF configurations and set metrics
for best performance and traffic flows. Setup cflowd reporting system, created
and maintained all network routing maps for all BGP sessions based on that
system. Network included over 20 pops and dozens of DS3’s throughout Northern
America and supported over 3 million dial-up users. Held regular training
classes to teach staff at the Network Center about the network setup and how to
troubleshoot issues and answer all network questions in both the NOC and
executive board meetings. Setup all the security for the company for both
internal and external network access. Worked with local and federal law
enforcement when needed and directed so by the FBI. Did wiring for routers and
T1/DS3 links. Attended the Cisco sponsored BGP 4 class in Kirkland, Washington.

in Bellevue, Washington. Mainly Sun system administration, system security as
well as internal network security and system security. Setup applications and
converted email systems over to new infrastructure (Netscape mail server to

MindSpring/SpryNet – Senior Unix/Network Engineer, (June 1995
– March 1999)
Located
in Seattle, Washington. Started out as Novell LAN admin but quickly moved into
Sun system administration. Setup and configured email systems, web servers, IRC
servers, ftp & gopher servers. Provided Tier 3 support for the call center
on special projects. Setup security for all Unix machines (over 75 Sun systems)
and did regular audits of all machines. Wrote scripts in Perl and various
shells. Setup internal and external Unix based communications servers. Designed
and implemented network center backup solutions using DLT tape library storage
devices. Documented security policies and enforced regulations. Conducted
